Rules Committee Details
At the 2009 Annual Meeting, one of the topics presented was a series of amendments to the River Forest Homeowners' Association Bylaws. The most important of the amendments established a framework for the elected Board to make, publish, and enforce rules for our neighborhood. This was necessary because we discovered, after having an attorney research and review our Association's documents, that our existing Deed Restrictions are not legally enforcable.
Before the amendments to the Bylaws were voted on, another motion was made to form a committee that will work to establish specific rules and penalties in the spirit of upholding the Deed Restrictions. This committee was formed with a 60-day working period, after which their work will be presented to the Association for approval at a special meeting (notice of this Special Meeting will be forthcoming).
Here are some of the topics that the committee will be considering (examples in parentheses):
- Standards (How tall is too tall for grass?)
- Definitions (What vehicles fall under our "48-hour" restriction?)
- Appeals Process (What if I disagree with a notice of violation?)
- Penalties/Fines (How much, how often, and where do funds go?)
- Amendments (How can the rules be changed?)
- Term (How long do the rules last?)
Once these rules are established and approved, they will be enforced. If you want your voice to be heard, and your opinions known, you need to be involved now - not later. This is your chance to have a lasting impact for the better on our neighborhood.
